New State Tournament Format

Here is a brief explanation of how the new GHSA calendar dates and format will work

 

- All Area tournaments must be completed by Saturday October 10

 As always, the top 4 teams from each area will advance to the state tournament

 -On October 15 two classifications will play ONE best 3 out of 5 match at the higher seeds gym.  The other two classifications will do the same on October 17.

 -On October 20 and 21, the same thing will happen for the second round game, once again ONE best 3 out of 5 match at the highest remaining seeds gym.

 

Which classifications will play on which date have yet to be released.

 

-Teams winning their second round match will advance to the Elite 8 which for all classifications will be played on Saturday October 24th at one host site per classification.

 

-The Elite 8 will be reseeded. In a single elimination format, teams will play until two teams emerge.  Those two teams will meet in the state final the following Saturday October 31 at Marietta. All matches will be best 3 out of 5.

 

-Those who win their first match of the Elite 8 are essentially in the final four.  There is no longer a set final four event like in the past, it is just the second round of the Elite 8.

GVCA Gearing up for Volley for the Cure
